Title: Support to GHG Inventory Improvement

Funded by: Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) and Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), New Zealand

Delivered by: NZAGRC, Unique land use GmbH

This project aims to (1) strengthen capacities of the State Department for Livestock (SDL) to compile and manage national livestock GHG inventories using Tier 2 methods; (2) Support improvements in activity data collection systems required for the livestock GHG inventory; and (3) Support SDL to identify livestock GHG mitigation options in the context of sustainable development. Activities include compiling inventories of all ruminant species using the IPCC Tier 2 method, including updating the previous Tier 2 dairy cattle GHG inventory, elaboration of Standard Operating Procedures and training for the inventory core team on inventory management; collection of priority missing data through one-off surveys, and development and testing of data collection and analysis methodologies to integrate selected inventory data needs into national data systems; ex post assessment of the GHG mitigation effects of interventions in poultry, small ruminant and cattle value chains.

Organisations receiving support: State Department of Livestock, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development.

Dates: Ongoing (2022 - 2025)

Project focus areas: Reporting, Foundation of GHG Inventories (includes capability building in institutional arrangements, cross cutting issues, use of IPCC guidelines), National Determined Contributions, Data collection/improvement.
