Training Resources

The UNFCCC is the UN entity tasked with supporting the global response to the threat of climate change. They provide abundant free courses online which cover a variety of topics and include mostly self-paced courses with certification at completion. They also provide courses for those wanting to become expert reviewers for national GHG inventories, National Communications, Biennial Transparency Reports and REDD+. These courses are also free of charge, but those wishing to take these must be nominated to the Roster of Experts by their National Focal Point.

The FAO is a specialised agency of the UN that leads international efforts to defeat hunger and improve nutrition and food security. They provided a dedicated E-learning Academy, which is free to sign-up and join. While less tailored towards national GHG inventories and NDC’s, they provide hundreds of online courses and can be filtered by thematic areas to find those which suit your interests.

The GHGMI is a USA-based non-profit organisation whose work involves educating on the basics of GHG accounting, auditing and management, training professionals to meet the highest standard of expertise and ethical conduct, and conducting forward-looking research into critical GHG measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) issues.

The GHGMI also has a free member login area which contains an E-learning area and Experts Forum for discussion. Courses provided have fees, but there are options for financial aid.

The GRA provides a framework for voluntary action to increase cooperation and investment in research activities to help reduce the emissions intensity of agricultural production systems and increase their potential for soil carbon sequestration, and improve their efficiency, productivity, resilience and adaptive capacity, thereby contributing in a sustainable way to overall mitigation efforts, while still helping meet food security objectives.

They provide an E-learning page from which you can register free of charge and provide courses specific to climate change and national agricultural inventories. Courses are completed at your own pace with certification provided upon successful completion.

CIHEAM is a Mediterranean intergovernmental organisation composed of 13 Member States. Its mission revolves around four main objectives: Protection of the planet; Food and nutrition security; Inclusive development; and Prevention of crises.

As part of their education, they offer a range of ‘Advanced’ Courses, which tend to be either a hybrid format or face-to-face at their headquarters in Zaragoza.
